What is the St. Quirinus chapel?

The St. Quirinus chapel or Gräins chapel is a small cave chapel, well hidden in Luxembourg City.

This chapel was already used by the Celts for ceremonies, the sacrificial spot is even visible in the rock floor. In 1355, the Order of the Teutonic Knights, which had been running a hospice in Luxembourg City since 1221, built the very well preserved Gothic façade.

From them also comes the cross of the Teutonic Order, which is once above the door and once carved in the interior. On the outer facade is also a small open pulpit.

In the chapel is a double cave, a sacristy and a small altar of stone.

Of course you are welcome to visit the St. Quirinus Chapel:

Of course it is possible to visit the chapel in Luxembourg City. It is located in the old town Grund, just opposite the minigolf. If you are planning a visit of the interior, please contact the Frënn vun der Festung Lëtzebuerg or our board.

About us

With the consent of the City of Luxembourg, in 2017 it was decided to establish an association with the aim of taking care of this early Christian sanctuary. We as a friend of history St. Quirinus want to make sure that the St. Quirinus chapel, the St. Quirinus source and the Deutschherrenorden is not forgotten as an important historical past.
